Its all good on Dusk Till Dawn, an album title that pays tribute to DJ Dusk but also describes how late you might be up dancing to these grooves. Breakestra take you North-East to Nippon with ease, making a Joyful Noise all the while. You will too if you pick up this album. Skeptical readers may wonder why they should invest in a funk band album that has almost no rapping, but if youre a fan of George Clinton, James Brown or Miles Davis this album needs no other explanation.Back with their first album since 2005s Hit The Floor, LA funk band Breakestra bring us Dusk Till Dawn, via Strut Records. This new record represents two years of hard graft back in the lab for Miles Tackett and the Breakestra team, and is actually a tribute to Miles
late Root Down DJ partner, DJ Dusk, who tragically lost his life in a road accident a few years ago. Rather fittingly, Dusk appears alongside Chali 2na on the track Posed To Be, and I can honestly say that after hearing this new album quite an amount of times, it is indeed a wonderful tribute to DJ Dusk. Breakestra are back and the quality just keeps on rising!

With the release of Eskimo Snow, Why? may have finally made the final step in their process from alt-rap to a full fledged weirdo art pop group. Starting with Elephant Eyelash and continuing on with last years amazing Alopecia, the group, fronted by merciful song smith Yoni Wolf, have stretched farther than I suspect anyone would have guessed. As a cornerstone of the anticon. record label, the group proved themselves adept at creating strange, melodic and arty rap music. Now with the stunning songs they have put together on Eskimo Snow (incidentally recorded around the same time as Alopecia), the band has created one of the more jarring records of the year.
